Chicago in the tropics.

Brisbane is pretty amazing for people that love urban life. An obviously prosperous place (we counted 15 cranes from where we ate dinner one night), it has and is investing heavily in infrastructure with an emphasis on paths for walking, biking and the ever-present e-scooters. We get the feeling if one lived in the right place, a car would be unnecessary.

The architecture is lovely. A lot of effort was spent in design.

However, unlike New Zealand, heritage buildings are very rare. It gives Brisbane a distinctly modern feel.

With the massive Brisbane River being the central feature of the city, it reminded us of Chicago…except that it is 31Β°C in February and a wee bit smaller (~2.5 million people).

Our time here has been spent collecting thousands upon thousands of steps. πŸ™„

Our first stop was King George Square. πŸ‘‡

The man himself:

Noon!

We then went to the Botanical Gardens, as we always do.

Then…the river shuttles. Free if using the “City Hopper”. This was followed by a riverside ‘stroll’ before happy hour on our balcony.

  1. Looks like an interesting City. When we were in Australia we never did make it to Brisbane.

    1. I’m surprised how much I liked it! We could have used a couple more days here but we leave today for Tasmania. Dave will be back to driving again.
