What a day at Botanical Beach, near Port Renfrew (about an hour’s drive west of our rental house). This was the ultimate in ‘spring tides’, with the water dropping to a historic low. I went there with my sister Kas and her hubby Mark, and the sights were amazing! Such life in the tide pools, but there were no starfish (aka ‘sea stars’). They, along with mussels, etc. were killed off last year in a historic heat wave.

I got Dave to join me for a return trip 12 days later, after we discovered the Port Renfrew pub online!
