So, we went full-tourist today, absent the flowered shirt, camera around the neck and knee-high socks with sandals. We had a full day on the bus – our first stop was the village of Hobbiton in “The Shire”. The pamphlet had a wonderful, concise summary:

The vistas were truly incredible. They chose the location well.




Some Hobbit holes were small, for use with larger folk like Gandalf.




Some were a tad larger for use with Hobbits.

Some are quite famous, such as the hobbit hole of SamWise Gamgee. The final scene of the trilogy was shot here. The little girl running up to Sam was his real daughter, and the baby in Rosie’s arms when she exits the hole was her new baby.
Yes, I like trivia…
