While the Steampunk Headquarters in Oamaru was utterly bizarre, the MONA museum in Hobart is, in our opinion, a deliberate pushing of the boundary of what can legitimately be called “art”. It is a full on assault on that boundary. We laughed as much as we screwed up our faces. Occasionally we were astonished at the utter brilliance.
Not sure we can describe it properly. Check this out if you want details:

To start with, the museum is built down, not up. That is, the three floors are excavated from solid rock.

It started off impressively:

Then, well…

There was an exhibition by an artist named TomΓ‘s Saraceno. This man has a serious obsession with the atmosphere and things that can float in it, and spider webs and what they can teach us about life and the universe.

But my favourite was this one by Gregory Barsamian. Anyone who cannot turn off their mind – especially at night – can relate!

Looks kinda strange until one looks into the little portals…
But, there is no question that the following display was the most disturbing. Serious warning: do not go further if you have a weak stomach!!

We needed raspberry martinis and Tasmanian salmon to fully recover…
