A tract of land fit for a King.

Hello from Perth, the second most isolated major city in the world (after Honolulu). When visiting this beautiful and bustling city (population 2.1 million) on the Swan River on the west coast of Australia, there are two “must do’s”. The first is a visit to “The King’s Park’”, a 1000 acre park smack in the middle of the city, overlooking the Swan River and the CBD. It is a wonderful mix of undisturbed nature and groomed gardens and open spaces.

Originally named “Perth Park” in 1895, it was renamed ‘The King’s Park” on 23 July 1901 to honour the accession of King Edward VII to the throne following Queen Victoria’s death.

It contains a wonderful botanical garden. Like we would miss that.

  1. Great pics! The world could use a few more places to “zen out”.

    1. It is a lovely place. Very green and spread out. Hot! 😎🌴

We might return some day. It’s one helluva journey though. 15.5k kilometres in a straight line. πŸ€ͺ

It looks like a really lovely city. Bernie’s artsy photo is really nice. The trees in Australia are so different. The stubby bear bottle tree is so unique

    1. I think one would need a month here to fully appreciate it. We aren’t making it out to the desert or Margaret River. Might return some day. 😍

  5. Perth is so superior to Sydney, in my opinion. Less commercial and quite tranquil for a metropolitan city.
Love the pics of Kings Park, but can’t wait to see what you make of the Freo markets

    1. We are in Freo right now. Did the prison, and we are now having lunch near the now-closed markets.

      I am very disappointed. πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜‚

      1. I can’t believe the markets closed! 😫

There were always lots of foodie treats to sample and the local crafts were stunning!

      2. They were closed that day. Probably open the next day?

  6. Hi guys. Great to see you enjoyed the Aussie adventures. The birds in this post are galahs. Galah is also an aussie slang term for someone who is not very sensible or done something ‘dumb’ or skylarking around. Like the bird if you have seen their playful antics eg on power lines swinging upside down etc.
Perth is one if our favourite visits. Should have segwayed in Rottnest lol.

    1. Hi Dianne! We do wish we had more time in Perth. If e-bikes were available to rent on Rottnest, that’s the way to go! Of all the birds we saw my favourite are the flying foxes! I love bats! My favourite city, though, was Brisbane! I can see us returning to spend a month or two there. Linda told us the Clydesdale is for sale. I’m sure it would remain an Inn though.
