The second “must do” here is Rottnest island. The island was given its name by 17th-century Dutch explorers – it was based on the island’s rather unique inhabitants, which they thought were large rats (Rottnest is “Rat’s nest” in Dutch).
The “Quokka” looks exactly like that, only much cuter. However, it is a marsupial, not a rodent.




The island itself looks rather unimpressive from the sea, but it is absolutely spectacular to bike around. Which we did…25 km in ~31Β°C temperatures…on regular bikes…

The sand, beaches and crystal clear waters are what one sees on post cards. πποΈ
It is easy to see why there are three ferry services from two different jetties, and hundreds (if not thousands) of visitors a day. Fortunately most aren’t very adventurous (or dumb?).
