Gnats, mosquitos and black flies…oh my!

Dave:

I don’t think I will ever understand the love of hiking. We did the “Heart Lake and Stocking Lake Loop” today. All Trails said it’s… moderate. Yeah, for a mountain goat!

According to this site (which is obviously a front for undeclared masochists), the loop is 8.69 km long with an elevation change of 336 metres.

Right.

At the halfway point there was a sign that said “7 km”. My watch said 13 km. Bernie’s watch said 10.2 km. There is obviously a conspiracy and I fell for it.

But, it was kinda purdy in spots:

BUT!!

For the 5-ish kilometers around the lakes I was in constant motion: trying to keep all the black flies, mosquitos, gnats and various other flying vermin from nesting in my ears, nose, and eyes. To actually stop was to invite death.

Were two lakes worth the effort and torture?

🫣😠😑🀬🀐

Bernie:

Had a fabulous hike today! It was great to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. The forest was beautiful, the air fresh and the lakes and views were amazing!

Also, it is wonderful to hike with hubby. He walks in front and clears away the spider webs and bugs…they adore him, as do I!

It’s like walking behind a moving 6′ 1″ ultra violet bug zapper. I didn’t have any problems with nature!
